I visited the Mansion Xanadu (then called Dupont Mansion) in 1993 and have often dreamed of visiting again because of its stunning beauty. My husband and I made a point of visiting when we were in Varadero last week, and the mansion is still as impressive. It now houses some hotel rooms, and we weren’t able to tour the whole building/property as we’d been able to in 1993, so we just visited the bar on the 3rd floor and that was enough. Amazing decor, architecture and most of all, view. The mansion is right on the water, and waves crash against the roc
This beautiful mansion is a must stay when you travel to Varadero. We were the only guests here tonight ( 8 rooms in total but 4 are getting renovated). The staff is outstanding. The cocktails at the bar one of the best we ever had. Breakfast and dinner was included in our stay and we were amazed at the amount and quality of the food. Don’t miss the home made chocolate fondue cake, it is to die for. We also liked it that the hop on hop off bus stops in front of the door.
My wife and I had been to the DuPont mansion for supper, on a previous trip to Varadero. This time we enjoyed the cigar lounge after a round of golf. We were cautious in our approach of the oldest functioning elevator in Cuba, and it worked flawlessly. Once at the top, the sights are some of the best we’ve seen. Anywhere. The view is amazing, and the authentic feel of the cigar lounge transports you to a time when the world was a better place. Service is great, and their selection of aged rums is excellent. My wife also said the mojito was the best she’s had. They have live music, which was a nice touch. The rest of the facility is nicely maintained and a must to see. Looking forward to returning here on our next trip to Cuba.
